Colombo is the capital of Sri Lanka and the largest city of the country. It is situated on Sri Lanka’s west coast of Bay of Bengal and south east of the Arabian Sea. The 2004 Tsunami hit Colombo killing 35,322 people across Sri Lanka. The tsunami ravaged the coastal communities with waves up to 100 feet high in some areas. The best time to visit Colombo is during the winter season when the temperature is between 20°C and 27°C. This is the ideal time to visit and explore Sri Lanka. During the monsoon season the heavy downpours usually cause floods and the roads become dangerous.
